It happens only in India

Yesterday a friend of mine asked me if India is a democratic country, I didn’t understand it and asked him what he means by it. We have been the citizen of a democratic country for the past 60 years; we select our representatives by a democratic electioneering process. These representatives then select their leader who finally becomes the head of our state. He argued that if this been the case and if ours is a really democratic country in the sense in which you are suggesting, then why is it so that in the past 60 years or so we hardly have (may be for 10-15 years) anyone heading the state and not belonging to Nehru –Gandhi family.

Although his argument was valid but still, to feel proud of a citizen of a liberal & democratic country I again argued that no on else has got the kind of support the way Nehru-Gandhi family have got। Otherwise also, what is the harm in selecting some one from the same family again and again if no one else possesses the quality of becoming the head of Indian state? And by the way for your kind information dear, for the past 6 years we have, Mr. Singh as our Prime Minister who is neither from the Nehru-Gandhi family nor does he have any political affiliation. He became the Prime Minister because of his qualifications and integrity of his character. Now, he (my friend) lost his temperament and remarked sarcastically, “Haven’t you listen the news that Madam ji has reorganized the National Advisory Council and has become the Head of it, where she’ll enjoy a status equivalent to a cabinet minister and will also guide the government on its future decisions”. I tried my level best to defend my stand on India being a democratic country, but I knew that I couldn’t hold this position more, because I knew that even after 60+ years of adopting the Indian constitution and calling our self as the largest democratic nation in the world, we are no where close to what real democracy stands for….Good luck to all of you!!!

One of the greatest tennis star of our times, people generally call her as Tennis sensation of India is planning to marry someone. Well, good, great, good luck and congratulations to her, because here in India we have been taught that marriage is one of the most important day and turning point in someone’s life. This day shall be more important in Sania’s case because her engagement with her long time friend had been called off a few months ago. But Sania didn’t let this personal event to affect her professional career i.e. sports and continue to play with same spirit.

Now she has got someone else in her life, a Pakistani cricketer, to whom she met about 6 -7 years ago and they want to marry with each other. I don’t want to go in details of as why she called off her engagement with someone who is her childhood friend and why she wants marry to someone with whom she interacted some 6 years ago.

I just want to know that, post marriage, why she wishes to live in DUBAI, why not in India or for that matter in Pakistan. If Pakistan is not safe for her or for her to-be husband, can’t she stay in India? Are we really such a unsafe, bad and hostile country to live in? And if she like Dubai so much, should she still be allowed to play for India? Why shouldn’t she play for UAE!!! We are great, some one who is born in India, marries to Pakistani and will be living in Dubai, shall be allowed to play for India

दलितों की माया (वती)

पिछले दस दिन से एक महिला सारे देश के मिडिया का केंद्र बिंदु बनी हुई हैं। समाचार चैनलों, समाचार पत्रों में ये सारी ख़बरें सुनकर और पढ़कर मुझे एक घटना याद आती है। इस घटना ने न सिर्फ एक विद्यार्थी को झकझोर दिया था, बल्कि आने वाले वर्षों में उस विद्यार्थी ने पुरे राष्ट्र के चिंतन को झकझोर दिया।
स्कूल से आते वक़्त रस्ते में भारी बारिश होने लगी, इस बारिश में कहीं स्कूल का बस्ता न भीग जाए यह सोचकर भीम, भागकर एक मकान की ओट में खड़ा हो गया। भरी बारिश में एक बच्चे को भीगता देख अन्दर से किसी ने उस से पूछा बेटा तुम्हारा क्या नाम है। भीम ने डरते-डरते अपना नाम बताया, फिर उसने पूछा बेटा तुम्हारी जाति क्या है, तो जैसे ही भीम ने बताया की वह महार जाति का है, उस बुजर्ग ने जो मकान में था भीम को तुरंत वहां से चले जाने को कहा। बुजर्ग को लगा की अगर वह बच्चा उसके मकान में खड़ा रहेगा तो उसका मकान अ-पवित्र हो जायेगा। उस तेज बारिश में भीम जब घर पहुंचा तो उसका बस्ता पूरी तरह भीग चूका था और साथ ही मन में पड़ा, दलितों पर हो रहे अन्याय और शोषण के खिलाफ आवाज उठाने का बिज भी अंकुरित हो गया था। आगे चलकर भीम राव आंबेडकर ने दलितों के अधिकारों के लिए जो लडाई लड़ी वह पूरी दुनिया में मानव अधिकारों आंदलनो के लिए एक मिसाल है।
सच मानिये १०० वर्ष पूर्व कोई सपने में भी नहीं सोच सकता था की 'दलित के घर में जन्मी', 'एक लड़की', एक दिन इस देश के सबसे बड़े राज्य ( लगभग बीस करोड़ की आबादी) का नेत्रत्व करेगी। आज दलितों को जो सम्मान मिला और वह भी समाज और राष्ट्र की मुख्य धारा में शामिल हुए इसका श्रेय अवश्य ही भीम राव अम्बेडकर को जाता है। दलितों को आरक्षण मिलने के बाद दलित आन्दोलन कुछ मद्धम पड़ गया और तथाकथित 'उच्च वर्ग' ने सोचा की महज आरक्षण मिलने से दलित सामाजिक और आर्थिक रूप से हमसे आगे नहीं बढ़ सकते। जब देश और समाज इस द्वन्द से गुजर रहा था तब एक राजनैतिक सोच से दलितों को आगे बढ़ने की बात सोची गयी। उस वक़्त कांशी राम ने नारा दिया 'बाबा तेरा मिशन अधुरा, कांशी राम करेगा पूरा'। कुछ हद तक उन्होंने, मिशन को पूर करने का काम भी किया और शायद ये उसी का नतीजा है की आज एक 'दलित' की 'बेटी' हमारे देश के सबसे बड़े राज्य की मुख्य मंत्री हैं।
अब हम यह कह सकते हैं की दलित आन्दोलन तीसरे चरण में पहुँच गया है। हालाँकि कुछ समाज शास्त्री और इतिहासकार हमेशा से यह मानते आयें हैं की, अपने आप को उच्च वर्ग जैसा या उस से भी ऊपर दिखाना हमेशा से ही दलित आन्दोलन से जुडा रहा है। इसका सबसे सटीक उदाहरण समाज शास्त्री, अम्बेडकर की उन मूर्तियों का देते हैं जिनमे वो कोट और टाई में नजर आते हैं। तो अगर मायावती फूलों की jagah नोटों की माला पहन रही हैं तो इसमें कोई हल्ला मचाने की बात नहीं है।
आज भी उत्तर भारत में उच्च वर्ग की शादियों में दुल्हे नोटों की माला पहनते हैं। इस से भी ऊपर कितने सारे राज नेता अपने आप को सोने और चांदी में तुल्वाते हैं। आज तक तो किसी ने भी इतना शोर नहीं मचाया पर येही काम अगर एक दलित करता है तो सारा देश , उसका मीडिया (जिस पर उच्च वर्ग का सर्वाधिकार है) मायावती के पीछे पड़ जाता अ है। आज से पहले तो हमने कभी उस सोने और चांदी की कीमत नहीं पूछी नाही आयकर विभाग ने यह जांच करी की इतना सोना, चांदी कहाँ से आया तो फिर मायावती ही क्यूँ।
मैं कोई समाज शाश्त्री तो हूँ नहीं ना ही कोई इतिहास कार पर मैं यह आसानी देख सकता हूँ की अपने तीसरे चरण में दलित आन्दोलन सबसे कमज़ोर दौर से गुजर रहा है। भले ही दिखावा और अपने आप को ऊँचा दिखने की कोशिश हमेशा से रही हो पर इस हद तक अपन 'राज धरम' भूल कर और सिर्फ दिखावे और दलितों की नुम्यांदिगी का दावा कर कब तक माया वती दलितों का भला कार पाएंगी यह देखने वाली बात है।
